This is Sue, Round 2, a.k.a., Precious Prancer Wildflower Dancer!  Sue came into PRO already starting into a pseudo pregnancy, unbeknownst to PRO or her foster Mom! Her behavior in those early weeks was very quiet and sedate, befitting a dog who thought she was due to have puppies. As the pseudo pregnancy progressed, Sue developed milk and really thought she’d had puppies. Poor girl! She was so confused!  We’re very happy to report that she is nearing the end of this rare condition and will be available to find her Furever home soon! 

Sue is a super sweet-natured, beautiful, strong, lemon and white girl with lovely speckled ears and just a hint of lemon zest sprinkled over the bridge of her nose and on her front legs. Her coat is very soft which is nice because she loves snuggly pets and leaning up against her human for reassurance.  Her tail is always wagging and she has an enormous smile on her face, nearly all day long! 

Sue is on the timid side when facing new situations, hearing sudden loud noises and seeing new people. However, she shows no concern for the lawnmower, weed eater, vacuum cleaner or dust buster! In foster, it is apparent that with consistent exposure to new things (today it was a small child rolling by on roller blades—Sue wagged her tail and perked her ears, craning her neck around to sniff him as he whooshed by!) Sue will be more comfortable exploring new scenarios. She will need a confident human at her side to help her feel confident in new situations. 

Sue’s energy level outside and off leash is on par with the Pointer dog baseline. She loves running zoomies and wrestling with her foster sister several times a day. These episodes of running are followed by lounges in the kiddie pool! I think she would love playing in a creek or being able to splash around in a lake. 

Sue has very good recall in the large fenced yard she has and at a large dog park she’s visited nearby.  She will need to advance her recall skill before being safe off leash outside of a secure fence. 

After she exercises, she is quite happy settling inside on the floor, on the couch, on dog beds or in her crate!  She “helps” me at work by occasionally coming up to my desk for pets and ear rubs. She likes chew toys, is afraid of squeaky toys, and shreds stuffed toys and eats small pieces if not closely watched, so currently no soft toys for her. She enjoys nylabones, benebones, split antlers, and raw marrow bones. 

Sue is very praise and treat-motivated so will do well with patient and consistent reward based training. Sue is house trained as long as she is regularly taken out for bathroom breaks, and can stay crated for up to 4 hrs at a stretch. She has never soiled her crate, spends time every day crated, sleeps all night in her crate, and happily goes in her crate to eat her meals. She often sleeps in her day crate, and hops in readily for a biscuit!

Sue is learning leash manners and does well on a front buckle harness and either a 6-8 ft leash or a long line. She does pull but is learning where the sweet spot is when walking with her person. 

Sue gets along well with her 3 foster siblings, as well as the resident grouchy cat.  Her siblings range in size from 12lbs to 44lbs. Sue is 46 lbs. She is a tall and graceful mover, who dances and prances her way through the back yard meadows.  She does the cutest bunny hops when she is playing and when she runs up to greet her person! 

While Sue clearly enjoys being with her foster siblings, playing, running and snuggling on beds together, if she were to be given opportunities to play with other dogs often, and was able to run off leash several times a day, or provided other active exercise a few times daily, she could potentially do well as an only dog. She does love being the center of attention, and getting all the pets she possibly can!

Sue is still being introduced to children so would need careful introduction to small children. She is a big, happy girl and her body awareness is still on a learning curve!! Her baseline sweet nature would seem to be a good fit with a family, especially with children who understand a slow, gentle, respectful approach to getting to know a new dog.
