Meet Rocky, a charming handsome lemon English Pointer estimated to be around 5 years old, (approx. 50 lbs) with the softest coat and biggest heart. Rocky was discovered as a stray fending for himself in Georgia, likely let go from a hunting plantation. Despite his rough start, Rocky is an incredibly mellow boy who adores people of all ages, including young children, and is also very fond of other dogs. He has a sweet gentle nature that captures the hearts of everyone he meets.

Rocky’s favorite activities include soaking up the sun on the deck and taking leisurely strolls through the neighborhood, though he truly lights up when exploring nature trails. He’s well-behaved on a leash, walks well and is very polite when meetings other dogs. Off leash recall has been a challenge to work on due to his nervousness and he would need to build more confidence to be able to work on training while outside.

The biggest challenge Rocky faces is that he is very sensitive and fearful of almost anything and everything unfamiliar. Loud noises and new environments cause him to freeze in place or run and retreat to hide in his safe spaces inside. Rocky needs a patient owner with experience and understanding to help build his trust and overcome his fears. 

At home once comfortable Rocky is a cuddle bug and loves to curl up beside you often gently pawing for more pets. He is a laid-back boy when indoors and prefers lounging, sleeping and a good meal. He’s not a big chewer and does not chew on things he’s not supposed to but he does enjoy a good bully stick! Rocky is house trained and has never had an accident. However he is timid and he does not yet alert when he needs to go out. He does well on a routine of being let outside a couple of times a day for potty breaks in addition to short walks. He does enjoy soft toys that squeak but he prefers to play when he has someone to throw a toy for him. He does really enjoy a game of fetch in the house and currently working on being comfortable and confident to play with toys outdoors – and bringing the toys back.

Rocky does have some mobility challenges likely stemming from a previous knee injury and the discomfort of living and sleeping on concrete. He would thrive in a home where he can sleep on soft comfy bedding and minimal stairs (or carpeted), as he’s still uneasy navigating down them. Joint supplements have been very beneficial for him, keeping him active and eager, particularly when his prey drive kicks in at the sight of rabbits, squirrels, or even skunks! While he has not been cat tested he would likely do well with a social indoor cat and shows good manners with small dogs.

Overall, Rocky is a loving boy who would flourish in a household with another dog (though he’d also adore to be the center of attention) and a calm patient owner who can help build his confidence. Despite his initial nervousness in new environments, Rocky’s gentle nature and zest for life make him a wonderful addition to a loving home willing to work with him to overcome his fears.

Rocky deserves to be cherished for the rough life he has had in the past and the sweet soul that he truly is!
