Hey everyone, I’m McCoy! I was found as a stray in rural Mississippi in October. I was taken in by a lovely lady in TN who contacted Pointer Rescue. She didn’t want me to have to stay in a shelter so she let me stay with her and her dogs for several weeks until PRO found my current foster. Even though I miss my original foster family, I adjusted really well to this new home. I’m easy going like that and haven’t met a soul I don’t love. Except for the neighbor’s cat. That guy teases me from the other side of the fence and I can’t stand him.

No one really knows how old I am. The dogters can’t seem to agree. One said 6-7, one said 8-9. It’s a mystery for my foster family too. I play like a puppy but I also act like it’s tough on my hips to get up when I’ve been sleeping hard. Either way, I’ve got a lot of life and love left to give.

I’ve gotten along well with all the other dogs I have met and lived with. Even though I’m on the older side, I’m playful. I love to play with my foster siblings. I also like to take my toys outside and just play around by myself, especially with a squeaky toy. I have gone to doggie daycare and I love playing with the dogs there too! I would like to have a canine sibling that wants to play with me.  I LOVE getting love from the foster humans, especially the youngest one (14yr old). However, I would probably do best in a home without very young children. I really like them and just want to love them, but I can be a big clumsy oaf and I wouldn’t want to knock them down. I also have no control over my tail wagging which is right at a tiny human face height.

I am trying to learn to walk on a leash, but you know what they say, it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks. I need to be on a leash or in a fenced in yard, because I like to explore and roam. I sniff like a hound and I don’t listen well when I’m sniffing out squirrels or other critters that have visited my yard. I’m trying to learn “sit” and “down”, but I’m stubborn so I’m a slow learner. I am motivated by food and will do a lot for a tasty treat but I’m a strange dog because I don’t like peanut butter. I do love plain Greek yogurt though.

I love my crate. When I’m tired, I put myself to bed in my little safe space. I also go right in when the humans tell me to. I’m learning to love laying on the couch and cuddling with my foster family but it seems like I haven’t been allowed to that in the past. I live for pets. Sometimes when foster mom stops petting me, I paw her and give her sad eyes so she will keep going. I really like being petted and I like laying close to (or sometimes on top of) the humans!

I’m very well behaved overall. Foster dad calls me good boy, McCoy and foster mom calls me her sweet boy McCoy. I even sit very politely for nail trims and ear cleaning as long as someone is petting me while they do it. Some might also call me big boy McCoy. I’m on the lean side but still weigh in at 75lbs.

I am the sweetest dog! I have so much love to give to a family. Please consider adopting me so I can spend my golden years loving you!

McCoy is up to date on vaccines, microchipped and will be getting neutered next week. He will be available as soon as he’s healed up from his surgery.
