Leigh is a 1 year old neutered male lemon Pointer.  He’s a small framed dog, still on the skinny side, and will probably fill out to a healthy mature weight around 45-50 lbs.

Leigh was given up by a hunting plantation, but the reasons are unknown.  While in his foster home, he hasn’t shown any physical or behavioral issues that would raise concerns and is a well socialized and fun loving pup.  At barely a year old, Leigh is amazingly attentive and mannerly for his age.  He’s playful and engaged and is quickly adjusting to living indoors and learning how to work with his people. Given his age and behavior, there’s no reason to believe he won’t be a great companion and certainly has the time and potential to be developed into a solid hunting partner.

When indoors, Leigh loves napping on the recliner with his people. He might steal your chair or your spot in bed if given an opening, but will move to make space for you, so you can pet and snuggle him. He sleeps all night on the bed with no worries. Leigh has good manners around food and going through doorways. He is solid on house-training, with just one or two accidents at the door when his human was just a bit late and slow in taking him out when he really had to go. When home with his person, he won’t chew inappropriate items, but he does enjoy a chew toy.  If not given something that he is allowed to chew, he might try to sneak off with some laundry or a dish towel.  For this reason, he is probably not ready to be left unsupervised for long periods of time in the house.

Leigh is a happy, social boy. He approaches strangers and children gently and a bit cautiously, but goes right up to them and is good about being touched/petted. He has been around young children in calm situations and was very gentle and wanted petted.   Leigh wouldn’t do well with loud or rambunctious children as he would be scared and wouldn’t enjoy them. He doesn’t exactly jump up on people but will stand on his hind legs—for a remarkably long time—waiting for an opening to gently place his front paws on you.

When outdoors, Leigh is still attentive and well mannered. He has great recall and stays around in the yard and close to his person. Out in the field, he will keep track of his person but also likes to range further out, working with the other dogs. He walks well on a leash if allowed to sniff and explore. He also loves to ride in the truck and is always up for a trip to the store or other adventures and outings.

Leigh loves to play with other dogs and has done well with all different dogs. He should definitely go to a home with another well-matched playmate. Playing and snuggling are great for him and he wouldn’t be happy as an only dog.

If you are looking for a smart, engaged, adorable pointer with lots of playful, puppy energy, Leigh just might be for you.
