Do you know the song by Diamond Rio called Unbelievable? Well, that is the song I think of when I’m cuddling with JoJo. He is Kissable, Huggable, Lovable, Unbelievable…… and he ain’t typical!
JoJo has spent his whole life at a Georgia Hunting Plantation, so he is on the shy side but I have seen big changes in him during the last three weeks from when I picked him up on 7/1/24. He has gained 3.6 pounds during this time frame, currently at 50.8 pounds. JoJo is one handsome dog. He is spooked by sudden noises and movements. Thunderstorms do not bother him. Jojo is great in the car! As for toys, he has no clue what they are all about, how sad. He is a very low maintenance boy. He keeps his crate clean, and after a week, I realize that he can be left alone in the house, since he LOVES, LOVES, LOVES being on a human bed! When I’m working, and arrive home 5-6 hours later, he is still on the bed. I do have a belly band on him, but he has never had an accident. House training him is going very well and he will go to the door when he needs to go outside.
Because he hasn’t had much human interaction, he has no problem with being alone, and prefers to be in the bedroom while the rest of us is in the main part of the house. Currently, I’m making him stay in the main living area, putting up a baby gate in front of the bedroom door since he will scratch at the door to get back on the bed. With this training he becomes a Velcro dog because he isn’t used to having so much open space available to him.
JoJo walks well on a lead and will ignore bunnies, birds and squirrels! He has the personality of a Great Dane and not of the high energy, crazy Pointers. He is the easiest foster I have ever had! Because he is a bit skittish, he would not do well in a household with little kids and a lot of commotion. He does well when people and kids approach him slowly and calmly, and will give them a little tail wag. My neighbor kids are 4, 5, 7 and 8 years of age and he lets them pet him.
JoJo has learned so much from my dogs, Shawnee and Bodie, when he sees them getting hugs on the bed, he pushes right in to get his share. When they get treats, he is right there. JoJo is NOT an alpha dog. Having a dog buddy would really help build his confidence, but he would be fine as the only dog in a home. When he is loose in the backyard, he will NOT come when you call him! This is the only issue I have with him, other than that he is a dream dog. I have never heard him bark yet…how can that be possible??? What JoJo will do, which I have never heard or seen a dog do this before, is when I say WAIT, he will run to the back corner of the yard, lie down and wait for you to walk up and clip the lead on him! He was taught the word ‘whoa’ when he was being trained for hunting, so ‘wait’ sounds very similar. JoJo loves
to play Chuck It but doesn’t know to bring the ball back. He loves running around the yard, jumping in the air as if he is a pony.
A couple of MUST HAVES for JoJo’s forever home is that he is allowed to sleep at night with his humans! He will sleep through the night and doesn’t move much, and he is learning how to cuddle, which he loves! And a fenced in yard would be necessary because of his recall issues.
