Thanks for stopping by to read about me! I was found as a stray in rural VA, and the shelter named me Jared. No one came to claim me from the shelter, so Pointer Rescue took me under their wings. I traveled up to PA on 1/1/24 and got to start the New Year in a warm foster home. In October, my foster brother got really sick, so I moved in with another foster family in PA. Even though I miss my original foster family, I adjusted really well to a new home.

Since being in a foster home, I have learned to go potty outside, how to sit, and to come when called. I’m also working on stay and leave it. I’m working on my counter surfing habit as well. I LOVE treats!!! They motivate me to learn new things, but I’m also eager to please! I like other dogs I have met and lived with, and I also like my foster cat siblings, too! In the house, I love to snuggle with humans. But I also have a playful side and love to play with my foster siblings and have had some other playdates as well! I would love to have a canine sibling that wants to play with me, but would probably do best in a home without young children (I’m really interested in them, but I just don’t understand them!). I also LOVE walks! I walk well on a leash, but sometimes get excited if something crosses my path! I do need to be on a leash or in a fenced in yard, because I like to explore and get a little too distracted and excited to remember the rules. I love meeting new people and friends on walks, and I’m a really good boy with introductions!

I do have some quirks that I am working on. Cooking makes me nervous. I’m not sure what it is, but I bark when someone starts cooking on the stovetop or grill-it’s really scary for me. I will calm down and it’s something I’m working on, but I thought you should know! I also don’t like being locked in a crate. That makes me nervous, too. I’ll happily take a nap in there, but please don’t close it on me! I’ve been doing really well when my foster mom leaves and I’m not crated. When I first came into foster, I was a lot more nervous with lots of things, but the people with PRO showed me that I can live and enjoy life–so that’s what I do!

When I came from the shelter, I unfortunately tested positive for heartworms. I also had a complication from the heartworms called pulmonary hypertension. But the good news is, my heartworm treatment is complete, and my dogtor said I’m doing just fine now! No heartworms and my heart and lungs are in good shape! I also tested positive for Lyme Disease and am being treated for it, but I haven’t shown any effects from it. I also take allergy meds and am on a special diet (Diamond Naturals Skin and Coat) because sometimes my skin gets itchy. I don’t let any of these things slow me down, though. I always stay pawsitive!

I would love to be a part of your family! I promise I’ll give you so much love. My foster mom says that she can tell by my eyes how thankful I am. I would love to show that to you, too! Please consider adopting me; all I want is a family to call my own!
