Let me introduce you to Miss Cashew, my 10 th PRO foster as of May 15, 2025. She was
surrendered along with three other dogs from a Terrell County, GA hunting plantation.
When the staff asked the man what their names were, he said Uno, Dos, Tres, and
Cuatro, so the staff named them Dean, Lena, Almond and Cashew.
It has been an easy transition for Cashew to adjust to being a house dog versus a GA
plantation dog. She is an energetic, happy, well mannered, sweet three-year-old girl!
After decompressing from her trip and introductions to my dogs, Bodie and Shawnee,
her training started by learning the words: Wait, OK, Off, Easy, No, Sit and No Noise,
and is catching on quickly!
Cashew’s recall is very good, and she now knows her name. She is a counter surfer, so
that needs to be worked on, then she is told Off. She gets excited about going for a car
ride or her daily walk, which is about 1.5 miles, but all I need to do is hold her firmly, tell
her Easy, and she settles down. House training is going very well. She sleeps the entire
night either in her crate or on my bed and goes into her crate on her own. Cashew has
never messed in her crate or tore up her bedding. Dog beds and squeaky toys she
avoids, but she will play with balls and play tug with Shawnee when outside.
She is normally a quiet dog but will start barking at the dogs when they are playing
outside and she will give you a Woo Hoo greeting at times. Cashew loves kids, and
might be too energetic for young children, but as I mentioned above, she learns quickly.
One of the main commands I teach my dogs is WAIT. They need to WAIT while I open
the house door, the car door or crate. When I say OK then they can come out of the
crate, car or go outside. Once back in the house Cashew has to WAIT in the laundry
room to let me wipe her feet or as I say Muddy Toesies. After three weeks, she will stay
in the laundry room, without me telling her to wait. I find this rather impressive. SMART
GIRL!!!
Cashew had a skin irritation on her neck shortly after I got her, and the vet suggested a
medicated shampoo for the area, weekly for six weeks. It has cleared up.
She is such a joy to have around, and she would do best in a home that has another
dog, where she gets daily walks, car rides and can sleep on a human bed.
OH, I forgot to mention she loves to snuggle and will give you little nose boops with tiny
kisses. She is such a wonderful, sweet, little girl!
