Hello! I used to be named Kat, but I didn’t respond to that name, so my foster folks have been calling me Kitty, Katniss or Kit-Kat. My foster dad also calls me “the cuteness.” I am a sweet and stunning 3-year-old liver and white English pointer. I used to live in an outdoor kennel at a hunting plantation in Georgia. I guess I was not cut out to be a professional hunting dog, so I got hooked up with the great people at PRO.
Now I am living in Upstate NY and quickly learning all the ins and outs about living inside a home. I have been with my foster home for a few weeks now and let me tell you I LOVE being an INDOOR dog! My foster folks say that I am the perfect age – young enough to be a typical active pup, but old enough to be housebroken, crate trained, and mostly well behaved.
I am not as crazy high-energy as some pointers, but I do have the typical pointer goofy gene that is sure to make you smile. My foster folks say that I strike the right balance between being confident and playful, without being overly energetic. I guess I’m medium-low energy for a pointer, which is plenty for most humans! I do enjoy walks and hikes and I have a regal looking trot that is quite eye-catching. I also enjoy short play sessions with toys and bouts of zoomies around the yard with my canine pals. I am currently living with four other dogs and we get along nicely, but I adore people (especially men)! I am affectionate and love, love, love to roll over to receive belly rubs, ear scratches and cuddles. I’m not sure about kids (or cats) since I haven’t encountered any in my foster home, but my approachable personality suggests that they’d probably be ok, too with proper introductions and supervision.
After living outdoors, I love my new life as a house dog and I am very grateful to have a warm, comfortable bed or couch to call my own. I will tolerate being in a crate but would much prefer sharing your couch or your bed, if you will let me! I am housebroken and sleep quietly through the night. I am great at riding in the car and not at all fazed by loud noises or thunder.
I am smart and food motivated. I have already learned to take treats nicely and not to steal food off the counters or from my other canine pals, and not to jump around on top of tables. However, I would greatly benefit from a basic obedience class to reinforce and add to my training. Everyone agrees that a well-trained dog is a joy to live with. I am not one to chew things I should not, but I still sometimes get an urge to exercise my jaw muscles and need frequent dental treats and brushing to keep my teeth healthy for life. I am not too interested in birds, but I am aware of other backyard critters so a fenced yard would be best for keeping me safe. However, my foster folks say I could adjust to an invisible fence with proper training.
I currently weigh 52 pounds and have a clean bill of health. I am fully vaccinated, dewormed and Heartworm negative. I have been spayed, microchipped, and put on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventative. I am well behaved for nail trimming, ear cleaning, bathing, and brushing.
