Dottie (FKA Dixie) – 4 years, located in Illinois
PRO ID: 260474-P-B-MO
Intake Date: 4/25/26
Available Date: 5/9/26

Dottie is a sweet, affectionate young pointer mix with a big heart and lots of love to give. She looks very much like an English Pointer and may have some German Shorthaired Pointer in her, too. At around 40 pounds, she’s the perfect medium-sized companion.

Dottie is estimated to be about 4 years old, though her playful energy might make her seem younger. She’s very people-focused, loves everyone she meets, and is especially food-motivated, which should make training a fun and rewarding experience. She enjoys following her foster dad around the house in hopes of snuggles and would love nothing more than to be a couch dog.

She’s doing wonderfully with crate training and now sleeps through the night in her crate. She is also fully house-trained. Dottie has learned “off” quickly and has already made great progress with manners like counter-surfing. She’s still learning a few basic cues and has not yet become comfortable with sitting, but she’s eager to keep learning.

Dottie loves her toys, but she does prefer to shred stuffies — so durable toys are best for her. She does well understanding what is and isn’t a toy and has not been destructive otherwise. She has a lot of energy and enjoys her walks, though she is interested in squirrels and rabbits, so she’ll need a home that can manage that enthusiasm. She gets along well with other dogs and has been attending group dog daycare, and has been snuggling with her foster sister. The shelter shared that she is not cat-friendly.

She has been eating well, gaining weight every day, and is settling in beautifully. Because she can slip a bit on hardwood floors, rugs would help her feel more comfortable moving around.

Dottie is a loving, happy girl who is ready to find her forever home!
