Let me introduce you to Miss Cassie PRO-260791-P-B-GA whose birthday is 7/31/25.
She was taken to a local vet in Thomasville, GA on 6/21/26 to be euthanized! She
wasn’t even a year old! But the vet refused to put her down and turned her over to the
local humane society, who contacted PRO. So, after 4 weeks today, 9/19/26, this sweet
pup is blossoming into a happy, fun-filled, playful girl. Through patience, perseverance
and consistent training, there has been a total transformation!
In my opinion, the reason why her original owner didn’t want her anymore is because
she would not come right up to them when call, only about 10-15 feet away, then she
would pancake herself to the ground and bark at you, as if to say, “I want to come to
you, but I’m afraid that you will hit me.’
TRUST… she finally trusts me. With my two pointers’ help, we taught her that when she
came to me, she would get treats, hugs, and praise. I need to do a lot of coaxing with
her when working with her. To build her trust, I always wipe her feet when she comes
into the house, she learns to wait and gets used to being handled lovingly. She does
get scolded with a firm, deep, NO if I catch her digging, or chewing on something she
shouldn’t be chewing on. I don’t raise my voice to her, since she has strong reactions to
loud and sudden noises and movements. But thunderstorms don’t bother her! Cassie is
very cautious in new surroundings or when something has been moved. When it comes
to kids, she will try and run from them, but my neighborhood kids work their magic with
my fosters to get them used to little humans. She finally is learning how to play with toys
and balls, her favorite toy is a tire on a rope! Cassie will toss it in the air, barking and
growling at it…. goofy girl!
The commands she is learning are: Wait, OK, No, Come, Easy, Stay, Stop, Off, In Your
House. She loves her time outside, resting under the hydrangea bush. Cassie walks
well on a lead and looks forward to her evening walks and loves car rides. Her crate is
always clean, and she sleeps through the night. Her favorite spot to be is on the big
human bed where she takes her toys and plays with them.
She loves to snuggle and cuddle and will give you little kisses. House training is going
very well. The negatives about her that I’m working on are that she has a high-pitched
bark and at first, it sounds like she has been hurt, but it is her excited bark. And she
likes to dig and chew things, mainly digging in my flowerpots or dragging them around
the yard.
Remember this sweet girl is still a PUPPY! Cassie is a fun and easy dog to have
around. Imagine, If I have been able to make this much progress with this precious pup
in four weeks, how much more will she gain in confidence with the love of her new
Forever Family!
