Zippy – 2 years old, located on Missouri
PRO ID #: 260203-P-D-GA
Intake Date: 2/14/26
Available Date: 2/28/26

My name is Zippy, but I’m as happy sleeping curled up on the couch or staring down
squirrels through the window as I am zipping around the backyard. I get along well with
kids, dogs and cats. I’m learning to restrain my bad habit of jumping on people, but
when I do forget, I am so gentle and balanced, you’ll barely notice it. I like to play tug.
When I wrestle with the resident dogs in my foster home, my style is legs and paws
everywhere, so sometimes the other dogs don’t really want to play with me. Apparently,
they don’t care for having my paws slap them in the face. Who knew?

I’m still getting used to living in a house. I really don’t like being “in trouble” or having my
people disapprove of anything I do, so I’m learning quickly, but you probably shouldn’t
trust me to be left alone for a while yet. I have trouble remembering that I’m not allowed
on the counters or tables, and I REALLY love finding magazines or notebooks or any
kind of paper and shredding them and “skiing” on them across the floor. (Pay attention,
kids – your teacher probably won’t buy the excuse “the dog ate my homework” even if
it’s true!) I may also chew on other inappropriate items if they are left within my reach.
I like to know where my people are at all times, and I follow them if they try to leave my
sight, and sometimes I startle at things (even things I sniff!), but I’m really not timid – I
just haven’t experienced a lot of the things I’m encountering now.

My foster mom thinks I may have gotten my name Zippy from the way I walk on a leash
– I hang behind to sniff something, then when she tells me to catch up, I ZIP ahead and
yank her arm. Oops, she says I need to work on that.

So far, I like my kibble and wet dog food and dog treats, and any meat scraps, but I
don’t like any other people food. My foster siblings like all kinds of weird things, like
strawberries and pineapple. I’m learning other things from the resident dogs, though,
like sitting when mom hands out treats. I’m not so good at waiting my turn yet.
I sleep quietly in my crate every night since I can’t be trusted not to chew inappropriate
things. (I don’t like to go in there, though.) I’ve had a couple accidents there when mom
didn’t get me out in time in the morning, but I’ve had no daytime accidents. I use the dog
door when I need to go!

I’m always happy to greet any new people I meet. I like to follow the resident cats
around and sniff them sometimes, but I don’t chase them.
I found a couple of safe, happy places and that’s where I go if I’m in trouble or startled.
Those places are the couch (they don’t let me get on the chairs) and the double decker
dog bed by the kitchen window.
