Hello! I am “Charm’ed to meet you. Well, actually that is my name, Charm. I spent my entire life
on a quail plantation until it was decided I needed to retire somewhere else. Fortunately,
PointerRescue Org found a foster home for me and I am now living the life I never knew, but I
am still looking for my forever retirement home. So let me hand the mike over to my foster mom
and let her tell you more about me.
Charm is a 14-year-old lemon and white pointer. She came from a quail plantation who wanted
to retire her and turned to PRO find that home. She is a happy tiny (shy of 45 pounds) girl that
has a constantly wagging tail and a smile. She has been with PRO since 2022. Although we have no past records on her, it appears that she may have had a few litters of puppies. She has a collection of toys (her babies.) The smaller ones she gives to her foster dad to get a treat.
The greatest challenge we see with Charm is her hearing or lack thereof. She is deaf. When we
first got her, she seemed to respond to some tones. She is now completely deaf. We have tried
working with her on a vibrating collar, but she seems to be collar shy possibly from her
plantation days. The advantage of all this is that you can open a bag of potato chips and she
won’t come begging. However, if she knows you have food, well, that is a different story.
Because of her deafness, she will need a fenced in yard.
Charm is very friendly and affectionate. She gets along with our other pointers and is happy to
meet up with the neighborhood dogs through the fence. However, if you are looking for a dog to
play with yours, she is not the one. She gets along with other dogs, but has never played with
them even when the others have tried to instigate play. She is submissive to other dogs, so she
will let a dominant dog take over her food, plate cleaning duties, or even her “babies.” She will
get up and snuggle on the couch and on the bed. She has a couple of nicknames here, Princess and Alarm Clock. She will quite vocally let you know when it is breakfast or dinner time. She will also bark at that dog in the mirror.
Being a senior dog, she does have senior issues including arthritis, senior dog bumps and some“senior moments” now. She had a limp when she first came, but then would take off full senior speed across the yard. At the moment she is on Dasuquin and it seems to have helped her. She is a healthy eater and will gladly eat her food. She is not aggressive with food although she can be a bit grabby with treats. She is much better at that now.
Her motto in her senior life is “Don’t let the old dog in.” She loves to run, trot, explore our
pasture and look for deer or rabbit “raisins” and may bring back (or try to bring back) a find she
considers quite interesting. Her find of a king snake last year took her to a vet urgent care and
several vet visits for infections. She and the king snake are fine. As Charm would say “Don’t let
the old dog in.”
Charm is ready to charm you. Are you ready to be “Charm’d?”
