Darling, Delightful Dot is ready to be your best girl EVER! This young, energetic beauty is a real sweet pea–very eager to please her person and loves her cuddles and affection. Dot’s tail rarely stops wagging, she is such a happy girl! Of course she’s spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on all vaccines and preventatives.
Dot spent her first years on a hunting plantation, but she did not take to the hunting life. Specifically, she is afraid of sudden, loud noises (guns), so she was surrendered. She is adjusting well to her new role as a beloved “pet”; learning new leash manners, house manners, and she LOVES to learn new “tricks” for treats or affection. She has learned so many new words and commands since she arrived! Dot will thrive with a person who will continue to engage her love of learning and love of working with her person.
Dot is fully house trained and will go to the door to ask to go out. She crates easily and spends some time in her crate daily. She adjusted easily to my work schedule of working 2 days outside the home. On those days, she is crated for 4 hours at a time. I have a dog walker that comes at noon to let her out for a bathroom break and leg stretch. She does need an indestructible crate pad, and aggressive chewer toys (no stuffies) in the crate with her. She likes to stay busy and will find her own amusement if not provided appropriate distraction. On days I work from home, Dot is able to be out of the crate all day, though she does sometimes still need crate time to chill. Recently, she is choosing to have her chill time on the couch. She naps several times each day, usually on a dog bed at my feet, while I work. She prefers to be wherever her person is, and watches me as I go about my day.
Currently, on my remote work days, she goes out about every 2 hours for off leash exercise and once a day for work on leash walking and vocabulary/skills in my neighborhood. She is a dream to train—very treat and positive reinforcement motivated. She is a smart, sensitive girl so positive reinforcement is the best training technique with her.
Dot gets along well with her 3 canine foster siblings (all sizes and ages), and 1 cranky old cat. She was afraid of the cat at first, then avoided him, and now ignores him. Dot is very ‘birdy” with songbirds, and does alert on neighborhood cats, squirrels, songbirds flying close, and chickens, so bird dog prey drive skill/experience is needed.
Dot is able to settle inside, but also prefers to play with her foster siblings inside, rather than run zoomies or wrestle with them outside. Outside, she is all bird dog business with sniffing and patrolling her territory. Inside she loves to wrestle with her “siblings” on the couch, and play chase around the living and dining rooms. While she likes to play inside with dogs, she could also be your one and only dog as long as she is given enough mental stimulation, affection, and exercise. She would not do well in an environment where she had to be left alone or crated for most of the day.
Dot has two large crates, one for day and one for night. Once in her nighttime crate, she goes to sleep quickly and sleeps all night. She prefers to have snuggle time when she wakes in the morning, so she stays in her crate with the door open and her person sitting beside her for snuggles, and time to reconnect after the ‘long’ night apart. Once she’s up though, she’s ready for a full day!
Dot is currently able to be off leash outside in a large fenced yard, and stays happily busy snuffling and looking for interesting things. She is good with recall off leash in this fenced area.
Dot has done very well at a local park with the hubbub of other dogs, kids and families, bicycles, skateboards, swings, etc. She wags her tail at everyone and did well with letting older kids pet her, even sitting on the bench with them! She is a happy, strong girl so would do best with older kids 9-10 years and up.
Dot arrived to her foster home with a moderate degree of anxiety when facing new situations or at sudden loud noises. That is not too uncommon for plantation dogs, who have never really “left home” before. She is making great strides towards building the confidence she needs to be less anxious by having well-supported new experiences regularly.
If you have experience with the joyfully energetic Pointer personality and are looking for a delightfully smart, sweet, and engaging companion, Darling Delightful Dot could be just the one you’re looking for!
