Hi, I’m Taco. I spent the first 8 years of my life on a hunting plantation where I was a great bird dog. Then I got a strange sore on my foot, one thing led to another, and they amputated my leg. PRO took me in to help me find a new job and a new home. I still love to run and hunt and can hold a point for a really long time. But foster mom has to be careful with me, because I love running so much, I can make myself sore without realizing it. She is helping me build up my strength and stamina, and I’m doing really well with that.
The other thing I love is being patted. This is pretty new for me, but I realized right away that it is awesome. I will fall asleep in foster mom’s lap while she holds me, or I’ll melt into the sofa while she strokes my ears or rubs my neck.
I’m learning so many new things. Toys are fun if a little confusing. Treats are great and chewies are entertaining. I’m learning how to walk on a leash or long line. And while I don’t like it, I think foster Mom and I are working things out with that pretty well. I’m also learning to only potty outside, but I still occasionally forget.
I do really well with all my foster siblings. There is a grumpy old man, and I leave him alone. The girls try to play with me and that is really exciting and fun. I get knocked over but I don’t care. Outside I run and hunt with my foster sisters, and there is one girl, Sugar, who was also a hunting dog, and we honor each other’s points. I’ve always done that, but foster mom still thinks it is pretty impressive.
I hope my furever home has places for me to run around, warm laps for me to fall asleep in, and lots of time for patting. That’s pretty much all I need.
From Foster Mom: Taco is the happiest, most enthusiastic boy. No one told him he is a missing a leg. He is always ready to go do something. He doesn’t care what, he just wants to be included. He loves being outside and sniffing around if I am doing yard work. He loves car rides and is really good and quiet in the car. As he said, he really loves walking and running and having free time with his foster siblings. He has a pretty good recall and can be trusted off-leash. He is great in the house and so snuggly and loving. This boy deserves a home as sweet, loving and fun as he is.
