Adoption success stories and happy tails from PRO.

We love happy endings!

We are family

I was just a little pup who was abandoned with my brothers during an ice storm in Oklahoma, thankfully some very nice people from a place called PRO helped me find food, shelter, and my home.

I didn’t know what to expect and was scared while we traveled through Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and then back to Illinois where I met my mama and little human. I knew they were mine and I couldn’t wait to get out of my crate and into their arms. They drove me a long way to a place called Wyoming where I got to meet my three brothers and one sister and these two cats who I still bother and torment to this day. My pitbull brothers were big and scary but I was intrigued by them and hoped they would show me the ways of the ranch someday. Tony and I have become friends and playmates; Diesel still scares me, especially when he sounds like a Tasmanian devil, but I sure love him and look up to him for guidance. Mama said my brother Chase and I were both English Pointers, but it didn’t matter that we were similar, I loved him, and he was the best teacher I could have asked for. He taught me how to be mama’s best friend and how to make sure my little human was always delivered to school on time. He even nudged me down dog alley until I was brave enough to do it without running scared to mama.

My sister Sky is very bossy, but wow do we have fun playing! She is the fastest dog I ever met but I will keep practicing and one day I might win one of our races. Sky has become very protective over me and bossier since Chase isn’t with us anymore, mama says he’s watching over us from heaven, I sure miss him. Mama told us we were going to have a foster brother coming from Illinois and told us we had to be nice to him because he had a lot of medical problems and is older like my brother Chase was. I am learning to share my toys, treats, and my mama which is hard sometimes, but she always says that there is enough love for everyone in our home. I love to go shopping and to the elementary school with my mom, giving hugs is my most favorite thing in the whole world,

well….maybe chasing birds is my most favorite. Anyway, here is a glimpse of my first year with my family and I can’t wait for more adventures to come!

Update: My (foster) brother Champ is awesome; I love him so much! I’ve had to learn to share my mama a LOT more because he has lots of medical issues, but I’ve also learned that he needs me to be a good brother and snuggle with him and help him feel better. When he does feel good, he likes to play tug-o-war and I’ve shown him all the cool birds and rabbit places at the ranch. My life has been very awesome and come a long way since my days in Oklahoma. OH, and just to let you all know, I can run faster than my sister now!!!

Sisters are doing it like a PRO

All adoption stories are special to us, but there are some that are exceptional.  This family applied to adopt one dog through PRO, but ended up with TWO!  Check out their story below!!

“Our home had been a 3 dog home for years.  Frankin (the OG – coon hound / gsp mix) , Rosie – English pointer and Nellie – Treeing Walker Coon Hound. Earlier this year in February Frankin crossed rainbow bridge at 11 years old, 5 month later Rosie crossed at 7 years old. We were and still are devastated.

Out of concern for Nellie (4yo) we decided to explore a single rescue as she was Uber lonely  and depressed. When we got the courage we knew we wanted another EP to start. We were in contact with the rescue who brought Rosie in our life (who is also fantastic) GSP New England. And we also came across PRO. We went through the process with PRO and started having conversations with foster parents to see if there was a potential fit for us.

Along came Birdie (fka Sora) and in pictures we instantly fell in love. We spoke with her foster mom who explained what she was like and it was very much a happy reminder of Rosie. In further conversations we learned about another PRO rescue Penny (fka galaxy). Her description was even more so like Rosie so we asked about her.  As luck would have it both of them were with the same foster mom. As days passed we learned more about both of them and how much they loved each other. I made a “joke” that maybe we should take both of them!

Once we saw pics and video of how they played with each other and loved each other we knew that we couldn’t separate them.

We were so excited to bring both penny and Birdie back to be with Nellie and our family.  It’s been bitter sweet every day to say the least.  They make us happy and each other happy. They also have finally started to make Nellie happy too!

My wife says that Rosie sent me Penny. We bonded the day I picked them up and she is my shadow. We love them both so much already.
